First for Helford River Gig Club at Scillies
Helford River Gig Club are guaranteed at least one first during the World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly this weekend.
As final preparations get underway and rowers start arriving on the islands, Helford beat all the other teams to get their boat onto the beach at St Mary's yesterday, where it will be kept with the others for the weekend.
Pilot gig magazine GigRower (@_gigrower), tweeted "first gig on the beach - Pedn Billy from Helford," along with a picture of the boat on an otherwise empty shore.
Cotehele Gig Club was the second onto the beach arriving with their boats this morning.
