The children of Cury School have been getting back to nature this term as they prepare for their new outside learning space.
Pupils from all year groups enjoyed getting outside to help with planting, after donations including nearly £300 from the Cornwall Gardens Trust and money from Cury Parish Council allowed them to buy planters and vegetation, which they have been busy putting in place. The school also sent a group including members of every school year to the Old Withy Garden Nursery near Gweek, which gave them a discount on the plants they selected for their outdoor area.
Liz Tate, school secretary, said: “We have already done the planters, we have done that this week because it’s the right time of year.
“They are going to have a willow arch, a reflection area for the children, and some chickens in a coop.”
The school held a special assembly recently where the children put eggs in an incubator, with the newly hatched chicks to be looked after by Liz until they are “robust” enough.
