The playing field at St Keverne School was filled with very well groomed pooches on Sunday when the friends of the village school, FoSKS, held their annual Fun Dog Show.

By the end of the day 12 class winners were named and a best in show champion crowned while an impressive £850 was raised, which will go towards maintenance of the school’s swimming pool and school trips for the children this summer.

The dogs proudly paraded the ring in front of judge, John Mead, for rosettes to third place positions, though all who entered the show received a little prize.

The title of Best in Show Champion went to Flower with owner John Hoerner. The reserve champion was Barney who was led by Ruby Lambrick, though Lisa and Barry Williams are his actual owners.

FoSKS is a committee that organises a variety of fundraising events for St Keverne School, and Sunday’s event was the fourth of its kind organised by the committee. FoSKS member, Sarah Lambrick, said: “We had a great all round turn out. I think there were around 25 people in each class. It was very widespread. Many people from the wider community of Helston and Porthleven came, as well as parents.

“This was the best show we have done, each year they do get better and better, but this year was by far the best.”

In total, there were 13 classes, and the winners of each are as follows: Dog in Best Condition, Barney with handler Ruby; Best Veteran, Peanut with owner Esme; Best Puppy, Stanley with owner Vietry; Best Crossbreed, Kia with owner Steve; Most Handsome Dog, Teddy with owner Alice; Prettiest Bitch, Flower with owner John; Best Child Handler 12yrs and under, Olive with owner Isobel; Dog with the waggiest tail, Winston with owner Cheryl; Dog Most Like its Owner, Yogi with owner Louise; Best Irish Brace, Digger and Moshy with owner Lulu; Dog the judge would like to take home, Pridey with owner Helen; and, Best Dressed Dog/Fancy Dress, Betty with handler Ellie.
