The achievements of students in years 11 and 13 of Helston Community College were celebrated recently at two presentation evenings.

First up to celebrate were the year 13 students who have completed their post 16 studies and were presented with an updated Record of Achievement by head teacher, Donna Bryant. Subject prizes were also awarded to those students who had made significant progress in their studies over the past two years.

A range of overall achievement prizes were presented to students by guest speaker Jane Black, head of learning and achievement at Cornwall Council. The evening was rounded off with a buffet provided by the year 12 hospitality students.

A week later it was the turn of the year 11 students to take centre stage as a large number of them were presented with subject prizes and special trophies by Mrs Bryant and chair of governors, Chris Webb.

The evening culminated with the recognition of seven students who have not missed a single day of education in the last five years of college. This was a fantastic achievement, and one that the college recognised by presenting each student with a special prize.

“Head girl Francesca Wells delivered her speech "with real confidence" and spoke about the happy memories her year group shared while head boy Blake Brown thanked staff and parents who had supported them throughout their secondary education.

Afterwards, head of year 11 David Dudley said: "It was a delight to speak to many parents who have given their support to the College over the last few years."
