Both year one classes at St Michael’s School in Helston invited their parents and family members in for an afternoon to celebrate the end of their topic, A Great Day Out.

Parents and younger siblings arrived at 1.45pm to have exactly that - "a great day out" with the children with the fun taking the form of a picnic. The children and parents were given the option to dress up, as if they were back in the Victorian era for a day out. The topic had looked in detail at The Great Exhibition that took place in London in 1851.

Unfortunately, the weather was not kind, so the picnic blankets and food were brought inside. Luckily, the weather didn’t dampen the children’s and parent’s spirits though, as they tucked into the wonderful spread of picnic food provided by the year one parents.

The afternoon also provided parents with the chance to look at the learning in year one, as both classes displayed their "floor-books" which had been put together by both the teachers and the children and included examples of work and photographs, as well as captions and comments.

When the weather dried up, the afternoon was rounded off with some with some outside games.
