Budding sailors from around the Helston and Falmouth areas enjoyed a special treat as they finished a course with a trip on a 36 foot yacht.

The Helford River Children's Sailing Trust, which takes schoolchildren from across the area out on the river to give them a taste of the sport, was able to arrange the trips after Falmouth based Cornish Cruising generously sent the yacht up the river for them to use.

The visit was a chance for the children, who train with the trust at the Helford River Sailing Club during term time, to see how a larger boat works.

It was the culmination of twelve weeks of sail training, which takes children from schools from Landewednack to Penryn from being complete beginners to having basic sailing training.

Trustee Alison Collins said: "We see a lot of children that struggle academically. They come out here and having the experience, they find out that thy have other skills, and that gives them the confidence to progress academically as well."

The trust thanked Nick Jordan of Cornish Cruising, who sent the boat You Go from Falmouth for the children to use.
