A terminally ill mother from Porthleven was left crying tears of joy after a charity car meet raised over £1,300 for a final trip to America with her husband.

Around 230 cars turned out in Tesco car park on Sunday to raise money for store employee Debbie Adlard who has been diagnosed with incurable cancer.

The event was organised by Helston based car enthusiast group Madness Meet, of which Debbie is a supporter, to allow her to make the most of her time on a family holiday.

Organiser Antoni Taylor said: "Everyone just brought what they had, and went round and had a look. The police and Tesco were really happy with it.

He said it was great for the group to be able to do something positive for a member of the community: "Hopefully it will change the stereotype of what the public call boy racers."

The group collected a total of £1,360 from participants for Debbie, with Tesco having already raised a similar sum, and presented the money to her at the end of the evening.

Antoni said: "She was bawling her eyes out. She was absolutely ecstatic."
