More than 40 Slimming World members, family and friends ran or walked around Helston's boating lake in their own version of Cancer Research's Race for Life.

The group completed for laps of the lake, notching up 1.3 miles in total and by the end of the morning had manage to raise £500 for the charity.

The event had been organised by Dawn Jones, who rund four Slimming World groups at the Old Cattle Market in Helston on Thursdays. She was helped by Rachel Jones and Amanda Williams, both members of the Helston group who have each lost over two stones in weight.

Dawn, who has been a Slimming World consultant for four years after losing three stone, ran her first London Marathon in April alongside 13 other Slimming World consultants and members from across the country. They raised over £18,000 for Cancer Research.

"After this Slimming World decided to work alongside Cancer Research again and in our groups across the country hold our own Race For Life," said Dawn."It's a great way to support an amazing charity which is close to many people's hearts and also encourage our members to get active and take part in some fab Body Magic (that's exercise at Slimming World).

"On Saturday I was totally amazed by my members' commitment as we had over 40, including family and friends, join us to do four laps of the boating lake. Some ran, some walked. It was an emotional event as it reminded all of us how cancer affects many people's lives but a great moment to encourage a healthy active life and raise money and awareness of the disease.

"As a group with over 250 members we lose on average 180 lbs a week in group. Our aim is to help and support as many people in Helston and beyond to lose weight. Our group support is the best and is what keeps our members losing weight and staying healthy week after week. I want to say a massive thank you to my members for their commitment to coming to group each week to gain a healthier lifestyle. I am so proud of their achievements at our Race For Life event."
