Kilcobben Cove at The Lizard was the setting for another superb lifeboat day hosted by the crew, shore crew and fundraisers from The Lizard Lifeboat station.

Visitors were wowed by The Lizard Lifeboat Rose and guided tours of the impressive boat took place throughout the day. Lifeboat souvenirs and the new 2016 Lizard Lifeboat calendar could be purchased and refreshments including a barbecue and Cornish cream teas were served throughout the afternoon. Visitors could also guess the weight of the huge Cornish pasty which was won by the Pollard family from Cadgwith. Coastguards and Mullion firefighters were also in attendance along with the RNLI Face to Face fundraising team.

To the delight of the crowds of people who had lined the cliff paths and in her usual spectacular style, Rose launched in preparation for the arrival of the SAR helicopter from RNAS Culdrose. However the crew from 771 squadron had been tasked to an incident just prior to the scheduled search and rescue demonstration. So sadly visitors were only able to give a wave when catching a glimpse of the Sea King helicopter and its crew as they flew over Kilcobben Cove after their mission had been completed.

A total of £2,000 was raised during the day with organisers wishing to thank Phil Greet for providing the PA and sound system, Ann’s Pasties for baking and donating the huge pasty, Coastguards and Mullion firefighters, to the proprietors of the local restaurants who had donated to the Eating around The Lizard raffle, to all of the volunteers who helped during the day and finally to everyone who came and made the event such a resounding success.
