The waiting was over for pupils at Mullion School this morning as they found out the final results of their GCSEs.

Many pupils celebrated the rewards of the hard work, and prepared for the next stage in their education, as 78 per cent of entrants received five or more A* to C grades, above the national average.

Head teacher Wayne Randle said: "We are really pleased. We have had a really positive morning, lots of smiling faces overjoyed with what they have got.

"I'm pleased the hard work that the students and staff have put in has paid off, and the students are ready to take the next step and go off to what they want to do."

He said the school achieved some outstanding results in English, and the humanities - especially RE - also did really well, as did Spanish and the individual sciences, and art and performing arts "have done fantastically, as usual."

Mr Randle also picked three "outstanding" pupils from the school, Laura Williams who achieved nine A* and three A grades, Belén Gomez, with four A*, six A and one B grade, and Rosie Tregonning with eight A* and four A grades.
