A RESTAURANT at Porthleven has achieved national recognition for serving high quality food at affordable prices in the 2016 Michelin Guide, achieving ‘Bib Gourmand' status.

The unveiling of the Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmands took place unexpectedly on the September 16, when the names of establishments were released early on Twitter - taking Anna and Stewart Eddy, owners of The Square At Porthleven, by surprise.

Stewart was thrilled to receive the news, saying: "This is a fantastic achievement for the whole team, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their hard work - particularly our Head Chef Bryok Williams and Restaurant Manager Holly Bowden."

He added: "Our ethos is all about fresh, local food sourced from a host of fantastic suppliers and showcased in a daily-changing menu - so we feel that our Bib Gourmand is also a reflection of the brilliant ingredients and producers here in Cornwall."

Stewart's approach is exactly what the Michelin Inspectors value for their Bib Gourmand classification - a great quality culinary experience in a more informal setting.

Stewart and Anna have been ambassadors of the food scene in Cornwall for many years as previous owners of The Victoria Inn in Perranuthnoe, a popular village pub which received multiple accolades for its great food.

The Victoria Inn was sold last year to allow the couple to concentrate on their new venture in the fishing harbour of Porthleven, which is growing into one of Cornwall's top food destinations.

Stewart and Anna are no strangers to the upper echelons of the restaurant industry; Stewart trained with Michael Caines and Raymond Blanc, and Anna worked front of house at Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saison and The Castle Hotel in Taunton.

They are now dedicating more of their time to training the stars of the next generation, including Bryok and Holly.

Bryok is from Cornwall originally, and started his career in gastro pubs in the South East before returning to his home county to work his way up the ranks; he became Sous Chef at The Square in November 2012 and was promoted to Head Chef in April 2013.

Holly is also from Cornwall and has extensive experience in the restaurant industry; she worked with Anna and Stewart at The Victoria Inn and was recruited as Restaurant Manager at The Square in February 2015.
