Businesses around the Helston area are supporting an exciting new event being organised by Cornwall Hospice Care which will see fun runners coated with powdered paint.

The Night of Neon fun run takes place at Flambards in Helston on October 10 and is a 5km fun run around the site after dark. Participants will pass through a festival of colour and light on the route while raising funds for the Cornish charity.Cornwall Hospice Care reached out to the business community, asking for help with the event, and local companies, Alfords Flooring of Helston and Nick Ferris Skip Hire of Longdowns, have sponsored the event’s unique "paint zones."

Runners will pass through four clouds of brightly coloured powder paint as part of the route, inspired by the Holi festivals in India, with paint thrown by representatives of the companies.

Melanie Alford, from Alfords Carpets and Flooring, said: “This is the first charity event we have been involved in as a business and what an event to be part of. Being a family run business the whole family will be getting stuck in, including our children who are extremely excited at the prospect of actually being allowed to throw powder paint at people. We are all looking forward to what promises to be an exciting and illuminating evening for everyone.”

Sam Ferris, said: “Nick Ferris skip hire are proud to be supporting Night of Neon as well as Cornwall Hospice Care. We are looking forward to manning the yellow paint station on the route as well as entering a team to the run itself.”

The event itself is open to adults and children over 12. Participants can choose to run, jog or walk along the route and over two distances; either one and a half or three miles. All of the money raised will stay within the county and go towards the work of Cornwall Hospice Care, funding the nursing teams at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell and St Julia's Hospice in Hayle.

“We are really grateful to the businesses who have come forward so far to support Night of Neon," said Rose Beattie, event organiser and major events fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care. “We do still have a limited number of paint stations that can be sponsored if any local businesses, associations or clubs would like take up this unique way of supporting us. Its great fun as well as being a fantastic team building opportunity, and start at just £100 plus VAT.”

There is still time to sign up to take part in Night of Neon. Prices are £20 for adults and £15 children over 12, which includes an event T-shirt to run in, as well as a memento for finishing the event. Sign up now at www.cornwallhospicecare.co.uk.
