Hundreds of people carrying flaming brands streamed through Porthleven as part of the port's annual torchlight procession.

Young and old, residents and visitors, all joined together to follow Porthleven Town Band around the harbour before finishing with songs outside the Harbour Inn.

Rob John, chair of Porthleven Community Group which organised the event, said: "It was a fabulous event, the best yet I think.

"We had about 1,000 people in the procession this year and had a lot more torches, and we had a lovely evening which made a big difference.

"It all went off really, really well."

He said as well as the townspeople there were quite a few visitors who came to see what the procession was all about.

"It's about tradition, it's been going on for quite a few years.

"It goes way back in various forms to about 1948, that was the first time people remember doing it."

The band was followed by the mayor and his deputy, with more people turning out to line the route, and the Cober Valley Rotary Club helped with marshalling.

The procession this year was also a fundraiser for the Porthleven Skate Park project, and raised £248.
