The sun broke out over Carleen as residents brought out their fruit, vegetables, baking and blooms for the 14th annual village show.

The show was opened by the Reverend Dr Peter Johnson, the recently appointed vicar of Sithney and the surrounding parishes, and he and his wife Angie Johnson spent the afternoon chatting and meeting people, before she later presented the awards.

Organiser Viv Treloar said: "There were a total of 550 entries and the quality of the exhibits was excellent in all sections.

"The cookery was very well supported. There were 12 entries in the fixed recipe, golden harvest cake, and the men’s cookery was popular.

"There were some very imaginative and skilled entries in handicraft and the vegetables and flowers were of great quality.

"There were 35 entries in the art section transforming the men’s snooker room into an art gallery."

Before the presentation of awards there was a short tribute to show regular Blair Hocking, who had died suddenly just 10 days before.

Viv described him as "a well known and popular exhibitor," and "always ready with help and advice on all things eggs and poultry."

She added: "He will be sadly missed."
