The people of Cury pulled out all the stops to ensure the annual Village Hall Show was another resounding success.

The hall was ablaze with colour on Saturday as competitors filled it with exhibits of flowers, vegetables, children's art, home produce, crafts and photographs which the judges then had the unenviable task of picking the winners from.

Despite a drop in entries in some sections there was a rise in others with some newcomers entering for the first this year. Paul Cook, vice chairman of the hall thanked everyone who entered and the committee for all their hard work. He also presented the prizes in the absence of James Churchfield, who had been due to carry out the honours, but was unable to attend.

One entrant who outshone the rest and went home with five cups was Clarence Thomas. He won the John Lugg Cup for most points in the show, the Marina Bates Cup for most points in the flower section, the Godfrey Lawrance Cup for best exhibit in the flower section, the Village Hall Cup for most points in fruit and veg, the Seymour Cooke Cup for best exhibit in fruit and veg.

Not far behind with four cups was Brenda Lawrance who the Cury WI Cup for Cury WI member with most points, the Village Hall Cup for Cury resident with most point, the AJ Courtis Cup for most points in floral art, and the Eleanor Williams Cup for Cury senior citizen with most points.

The Doreen Cattran Cup for best exhibit in the show, Esme Hawkins (Cury School); the Ann Moyle Cup for most points in home produce and the Jane Curtis Cup for best exhibit in home produce, Joy Blackburn; the Brenda Lawrance Cup for best exhibit in preserves, Lee Eggle; the Mr & Mrs David Lugg Cup for best exhibit in floral art, Sarah Lawrance; the Beatrice Chinn Cup for most points in handicrafts, Loretta Ruse; the Henry Oates Cup for most points in photography, Richard Finch; the Drayson Shield for Cury resident with most points in photography, Daniel Bagshaw; the Marian Jennings Cup for best exhibit in art, Belinda Bell; the Pearl Oates Cup for toddler under three years, Harvey Williams; the EJH Chope Cup for three to five-year-old with most points,Darcey Lugg; the Nightchasers Cup for six to seven-year-old with most points, Rosenwyn Lugg; the Nightchasers Cup for eight to 11-year-old with most points, Joseph Lugg; the Secretary's Cup for 12 to 16-year-old with most points, Jonathon Kitto and Laura Williams; the Stephen Howe Cup for Cury School child with best model in class 103, Joseph Lugg.
