A man was rescued from his flat in Wendron Street, Helston, in the early hours of Saturday morning after neighbours were alerted by a smoke alarm sounding.

Crews from Helston and Mullion Community Fire Stations were at the scene at around 2.30am to get the man from the ground floor flat.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, a safety jet and a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire, which was in a grill pan, and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke from the property.

Police and ambulance were also called.
