A Porthleven resident will be marking her big five-o with a big 50 as she tackles the miles to Land's End and back to raise money for a new skatepark.

Jo Lyne will make it a family affair, being joined by her daughter Torla as she celebrates her half-century with the 50 mile journey on Sunday, November 15, all in support of the Porthleven Skatepark Project.

Jo, who will be supported by her twin brother Nige and partner Jason, said: "At first it was simply a personal challenge, then I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of a local project - I'd been to a couple of fundraisers for it already.

"I've only lived in Porthleven for 18 months and have been really impressed with its strong community spirit and wanted to do something to become a part of it and I've always been an advocate for encouraging youngsters to get out and do something that's fun and healthy. My son was really into skateboarding too and it's a great sport demanding lots of challenges and discipline as well as being socially fantastic.

"I'm very keen for the ride, though I've not cycled this far before. Most of my training has occurred through cycling to work in Newlyn over the past year."

Jo has a donations page at localgiving.com/appeal/jo50milesbikeride and collection boxes at Naughti But Ice, the Ship Inn, the Brewhouse, the Hideaway and the Post Office, and is being supported by Porthleven Cycle Hire who have offered to loan her and Torla road bikes for the event.
