Skies over Helston were ablaze on Saturday, November 7 as Helston Athletic Football Club let off their fireworks.

Organisers were watching the weather that wasn't looking promising in the morning but cleared up nicely for the fireworks come evening. In fact, the night was so still that it caused a couple of minor problems for those letting the fireworks off because the smoke took so long to clear. Club Chairman Paul Hendy explained the evening still ran smoothly and it was"absolutely amazing."

He said: "We are extremely pleased with the way everything went. The new flood lighting and improvements to the club have made it much easier. We were delighted with the outcome, we had an estimated 2,000 people arrive."

Crowds of families and friends enjoyed the show while holding warm cups of tea, hot dogs and candy floss. Many young children were making shapes in the air with sparklers.

Between £2,000 and £,3000 was spent on fireworks, Paul said: "We stick around this mark. Our main aim is for it to be an event for the community, we have kept the price the same."

Hot dogs and candy floss were able available among other snacks and there were many youngsters making shapes in the air with sparklers.
