A new rail link to Helston could become reality under new transport plans being considered by Cornwall Council.
At an informal meeting with town mayor Mike Thomas last month, the council's portfolio holder for transport, Bert Biscoe, said "something could happen" for towns that "expressed the aspiration" for a rail link.
During discussion of pinch points on the B3297, Mr Biscoe told representatives the link could be "a medium to long term strategic objective."
Later in the meeting the mayor said was pleased at the thought but asked how it could be achieved, and was told that land could be bought back or the track could be re-routed around housing. Mr Biscoe also advised the Mayor not to be concerned about the cost.
He told the meeting that the economic and social argument was going to grow.
Also attending were Cornwall Councillors Judith Haycock, for Helston South, and Loveday Jenkin, for Wendron, and other tpoics for discussioni included the B3297 and the A394.
A report on the meeting will be presented to a full meeting of Helston Town Council this evening.
