St Keverne Parish Council has continued to back the relocation of Coverack's travellers to a site at Goonhilly, despite no one living there "since the Bronze Age."

Members have voted seven to one in favour of a planning application from landowner Michael Tylor, to create three gypsy traveller pitches on land opposite Croft Pascoe, on the Traboe Cross to Kuggar road, which they had already given their support to in March last year.

At the council's last meeting councillor and farmer Roger Richards believed it was "disgraceful" to ask travellers to live on the downs, where no one has lived "since the Bronze Age", when alternative sites had not been considered.

However, he was unable to vote on the application because he previously offered part of his own land for a site. Michael Anselmi also declared an interest, in a linked application and did not vote.

Councillor Dominic Brandreth was similarly unimpressed with the proposal, but the remaining members voted in favour of the site, along with a linked application for houses on the edge of Coverack.
