Calling all super heroes - environmental heroes who have made a "super" difference in Helston or the Lizard Peninsula, that is.

Local campaigning group Lizard Peninsula Friends of the Earth is looking for nominations for the John Mackay Award 2016 and would like to hear about an individual or group in the area who is committed to working for the environment.

The annual award is made possible thanks to a legacy from late Porkellis resident John Mackay, with the scheme now in its thirteenth year.

It celebrates people who have made a positive difference to the environment in the widest sense and consists of a perpetual trophy, carved locally from Cornish oak, and a small gift to spend in the area.

Individuals, groups or businesses can be nominated and will be considered under a broad set of criteria.

Previous winners include young pupils at Helston Community College, while last year the trophy and prize went to the Friends of Poldhu, the group who have taken responsibility for the beach and who were recently involved in clearing away the tide of pink bottles that washed up there.

To make a nomination for this year’s John Mackay Award email lizpenfoe@live.com or write to Lizard Peninsula Friends of the Earth, c/o Trevenwith Farm, Coverack, Helston TR12 6SL by Saturday, February 27.
