Dedication to the floral displays in Mullion has grown into an award for one hard-working volunteer.

Mary Kemp, who has been on the commitee of Mullion in Bloom for the last 17 years and chairman for three, has been presented with the Ron Curnow Award by the parish council, for outstanding contribution to the village.

She was honoured at a special presentation during last week's Mullion Parish Council meeting, where she was given the trophy, a framed certificate and a Cornish brooch by chairman John Lang.

Mr Lang said the Mullion in Bloom volunteers, led by Mrs Kemp, did "such a great job", adding that their work had been recognised nationally on a number of occasions.

Thanking the parish council, Mrs Kemp described the award as a "great honour", adding that she was amazed to receive it.

Mrs Kemp paid tribute to everyone who has been involved in the group over the years and gave a special mention to her husband Richard, for his support.

The award was first presented in 2013, after being set up to recognise contribution to village life in memory of Ron Curnow, an active member of the community before his death.
