There are currently not enough people to man road closures in Helston this Flora Day, prompting an appeal for volunteers.
Both Helston Flora Day association and Marshals for Cornwall are appealing for help for the event, which this year takes place on Saturday, May 7.
Allan Rankin, who is in charge of the Helston town marshals, said he only had six or seven people available and there should be at least 16.
He said he would be able to provide people for the Early Morning Dance, which requires one of the barriers to be moved as the dancers reach the top of Meneage Street, but that more would be needed for later in the day.
Last year only six people came forward, meaning three of the marshals were forced to work from 6.30am until 6.30pm.
Mr Rankin said: "I'm not prepared to put anybody's life at risk, whether they're there watching or my guys.We did say we would do it last year, and we did, but this year we said there's no way we'll do it on our own again.
"Anybody can stand there and stop the traffic coming through. We need enough to have two or three on the barriers and then they have a break, so on and so forth."
He has agreed to give training to the new volunteers that come forward.
Volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age. For more information or to volunteer email helstonfloraday@yahoo.co.uk with your contact details and availability, or call Mr Rankin on 07944 664543.
