Porthleven Post Office will be closed for four days later this month so that work can be carried out inside.

The branch in Fore Street is set to close on Thursday, April 21 and reopen on Monday, April 25 at 1pm with a new look, including different counters.

It will then operate seven days a week, from 7.30am until 8pm each day – an extra 41 hours and 30 minutes a week.

Post Office services will be provided from a low-screened counter, next to the main till on the right hand side of the shop. There will also be a full-screened counter at the back of the store for occasional use, for larger transactions.

Post Office Ltd said the open-plan counter would make it easier for staff and customers to have “discreet conversations,” and other customers will be asked to stand back from the counter while waiting to be served.

The branch will continue to offer the majority of the same services, although it will no longer be able to provide travel money or insurance on demand. However, it can pre-order Euros and make referrals for travel insurance. Payment by cheque will still be accepted.

Adrian Skinner, Post Office Area Manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

Post Office Ltd has advised customers to use the next nearest branch in Helston while the work is carried out.
