The women of Helston Town Council could be swapping meeting agendas for aching limbs next month when they enter the Race for Life.

Deputy town clerk Pamela Lavelle, mayor's secretary Shelly Price, administrative assistant Julia Chambers, town centre manager project assistant Amanda Boxer and senior caretaker Sam Goss have entered as a team into the Falmouth charity event on Sunday, May 15.

It was Miss Lavelle who suggested taking part this year, persuading her colleagues to join her.

She told the Packet: "I am not much of a runner and I have always wanted to do the 5K as it would be a massive achievement for me.

"I particularly wanted to enter the Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK, which is such a good cause with so many people effected by cancer every year; I think it is something that has touched everybody’s lives in one way or another.

"This year I decided to stop talking about it and entered the Falmouth Race for Life and my colleagues agreed with my sentiments and decided to join me."

All five members of staff have personal experience of the effects of the disease, with deputy mayor Mark Upton losing his fight with lung cancer last October.

Donations can be given into the town clerk's office at the Guildhall or online via the team's fundraising page justgiving.com/teams/helston-town-council

They also hope that as many people as possible will be able to go along on the day of the race to cheer them on.
