Police have launched an appeal for help after a Helston man was knocked to the ground and attacked in his own home as he answered the front door.

The 24-year-old victim was left badly beaten and needing stitches to his face, with police adding that it was "likely" he would lose some of his teeth.

The attack took place halfway along Church Street, near the bend in the road, at approximately 11pm on Friday.

DC Martin Hearn, from Helston Police Station, said: "The male was beaten badly and received serious injuries to his head and face; once inside the address threats were made and property was stolen."

He added that this included a "substantial" amount of cash being taken.

Police now want to hear from anyone who might have information about two men in the area of Church Street and Five Wells Lane, between 10.30pm and 11.15 pm that night.

They are both described as being white, with the first aged in his early twenties, about 5ft 6in tall and of average build, with short blond hair. The second man is described as being taller and wearing an unspecified "facial covering", with both men wearing casual clothes.

Information can be passed on to DC Hearn by phoning 101 and quoting CR/24740/16, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

  • Two men have been arrested and are currently on police bail.
