Young cubs have learnt how food ends up on their plates thanks to a visit to Helston’s Tesco supermarket.

The store runs a Farm to Fork programme for schools and community groups in the area, and has so far seen more than 1,500 take part.

Youngsters get to visit the various departments and take part in different activities to find out where food originates from.

Store manager Matthew Mill said: “The Farm to Fork programme sees our store educate school classes of children on how food is sourced, produced, displayed etc. The children kneed bread which we bake to take home with them, sample different fresh products, and touch and hold fresh fish.”

This time it was the turn of the Geevor cubs of 1st Helston Scout Group, who spent the evening studying the different types of fish, tasting the bread from the in-store bakery and naming various fruits, and the countries they come from.

There was plenty of excitement as each child was given a yellow tabard and a white hat to put on, before being shown around the supermarket by staff members.
