Lights twinkled across Coverack beach throughout Saturday evening for one of the village's prettiest fundraising events of the year.

Organised by the community group Coverack Space 2000, the Night of Twinkling Lights’ event raised money to be split between the maintenance of the two village defibrillators and the group's own activity funds.

Over the course of the evening people bought candle bags, with artificial tea lights inside, for £3 each and then took them on to the beach to choose where to place their light. Some wrote messages on their bags, while others simply placed them.

Caroline Beadle, from the community group, said: "We are very lucky in Coverack as the view from the road down on to the beach is stunning usually, but the overall effect of so many glowing candles at night on the beach was beautiful.

"Some people who couldn’t make it on the night ordered their candle bags and then watch from the Bay Hotel’s webcam – providing a beautiful view of the evening remotely."

There are now two defibrillators in Coverack, the second having been donated recently, but the village needs to raise funds to cover the cost of the case, electrics and maintenance.

Meanwhile Coverack Space 2000 organises events throughout the year but still needs to cover own costs, including insurance.

Caroline added: "We were very lucky with the weather. The event was carefully planned for a low tide but a beautiful evening was a real bonus. Over 80 bags twinkled until late into the night.

"Those that took part really enjoyed the evening and the atmosphere – it looks like this could become another annual event in Coverack."

The bags were collected up at around 11pm so that no litter was on the beach.
