There will be fun to be had for all animal lovers when the Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary holds an open day later this month.

The sanctuary, located just outside Ruan Minor, will open its doors on August 21 when visitors will able to meet and greet the animals and enjoy other attractions, including a horse-training demonstration led by Michelle Cure, a Monty Roberts horsemanship instructor.

There will also be a performance by the Cadgwith Singers, a fun dog show, face-painting, a bouncy castle, stalls and refreshments from the sanctuary cafe. The event will be held from 11am until 4pm, with entry by donations to the charity.

The Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary is a 30-acre farm which is home to around 80 rescued animals, including horses, ponies, donkeys and goats. Among the animals to be met are the "Bodmin Twelve," two groups of ponies rescued from Bodmin Moor who are now cared for full-time at the sanctuary.

Val Blake, chairman of Bolenowe, said: “We are a registered charity and run on a shoestring with a voluntary group of trustees and a small staff. With costs and demands on our sanctuary growing all the time, this is a chance for people to enjoy a lovely few hours here – and, we hope, help to give a vital boost to our fundraising for the year.

“We are normally open every Sunday from 11am to 4pm, from Easter to the end of October, but this will be a very special day for us – and, we hope, for all our visitors.”
