Art lovers have until the end of the week to see the entries in this year's The Spirit of Porthleven competition and vote for their favourite.

Now in its sixth year, the contest always attracts a diverse collection of artwork, from delicate watercolours to vibrant oils, all taking inspiration from the beauty of Porthleven.

This year's competition was judged by two West Penwith artists with international reputations, Paul Lewin and Jason Walker, alongside head of art at Bath Spa University Dan Allen.

Announcing the winners, Dan praised the level of the work submitted and stressed the difficulty of choosing just three out of the 50 entries.

The panel were unanimous in their first choice of a portrayal of Porthleven Harbour by Rinsey artist Jane Bath, but because they just could not agree on second and third place they decided to award a joint second prize to Mary Taylor for “Rocky Cove” and Katie Barber for "View from Maddie’s House”.

Winner Jane Bath was thrilled to be awarded first prize, saying: “I feel as if I have won an Olympic Gold Medal.” After the presentation Dan announced an additional "people's choice" prize, which will be sponsored by Bath Spa University.

Visitors to the exhibition in the Porthleven Old Lifeboat House will be able to vote for their favourite artist with the winner being announced this Sunday.

The exhibition, which is sponsored by the Trevor Osborne Charitable Trust, is open from 10.30am until 4.30pm each day until Sunday, with all the art work for sale.
