Helston Theatre Company have announced that their 2017 production will be the multi award winning rock musical Rent and auditions are to take place this month.
Originally produced on Broadway in 1996, the show gained critical acclaim and won four Tony Awards including best musical plus Pulitzer and Drama Critics’ Awards. The Broadway phenomenon ran for 12 years and has been seen all over the world, it is about to start a UK tour followed by a West End run.
Written by Jonathan Larson, who tragically died the night before it opened, the show is loosely based on Puccini's opera La Bohème and is set in New York’s Eastside. It tells the story of a group of impoverished artists struggling to survive and create a life under the shadow of HIV and addiction but most of all it is a wonderful story of friendship and love.
Helston Theatre Company are offering actor/singers the chance to be part of this rarely performed show, which follows their recent successes with productions of Sunset Boulevard and Our House.
