There were ghoulish goings on in Hell-ston on Saturday when Hallowe'en was celebrated early.

With October 31 falling on a Monday this year, many revellers chose the weekend preceding it to dress up for a night on the town.

It was an excuse for lots of white face paint and a bucketload of fake blood, with decidedly dodgy medical professionals and mime artists appearing to be popular themes this year.

Among the more creative costumes was the hideous "man baby," while some chose to be on trend by dressing as characters from the recently released Trolls movie.

Others went for a more conventional choice, with lots of pumpkins, cats and witches to be seen.

All of the town's pubs appeared to be doing good business, including the two freshly reopened pubs, the Beehive and the Red Lion, which opened its doors after a long period of closure.
