The judges went crazy for Helston Theatre Company’s musical based on the songs of Madness when it went before the Cornwall Drama Association Awards panel.

The production of Our House earlier this year received raved reviews, winning awards for outstanding vocal achievement and best actor for Nathan Hooper who played the lead role of Joe Casey, along with the coveted “best musical” trophy.

Ben Blaber, who directed the show at the Epworth Hall, which marked the Cornish premiere of the musical, said: “I am a very proud director. Putting on such a large scale musical required a huge team effort, so I am pleased that everyone’s hard work has been recognised.”

The group also took home a fourth trophy – a special award for the flying magic carpet effect that wowed audiences when the theatre company put on its production of Aladdin.

Chairman Paul Blaber said: “Each of our three shows we presented this year were nominated for at least one award at the Cornwall Drama Association Awards this year. I am thrilled that we have come away with four awards, especially winning best musical for the third time since 2014.”

Helston Theatre Company’s next show will be Cinderella, performed from January 24 to 29. Tickets will be on sale soon.
