This year's Coverack Bonfire Night and fireworks evening was a sparkler, with many claiming it to be the best yet.

A large bonfire lit up the beach, with the fireworks set off from the harbour. A high tide was an added bonus, as the colourful explosions created beautiful reflections in the water below.

Now in its tenth year, the event was once again organised by community group Coverack Space 2000.

Their aim was just to cover its costs while providing a safe display for the community, especially children.

Caroline Beadle, from the group, said: "It is a huge community effort that leads to a great evening. We ask for donations on the night from those attending; buying refreshments, glow sticks, raffle tickets or simply donating - it all helps. If we make enough money we can run the event the following year."

The bonfire was built during Saturday afternoon, with a dedicated group of volunteers worked hard to collect the donated wood, build the fire and putting up the marquee.

Volunteers also ran the event that evening, running stalls, helping with donation pots and making cakes and goodies to sell on the night.

Rachel Flynn and Sharon Rideout, alongside Jo Barry and Norma Hamill worked hard to provide the ever popular barbecue, which was much appreciated by those looking for a warming bite to eat.

This year Lizard Peninsula Grass Fed Beef donated their top quality burgers, as a thank you for all the years they have been watching the fireworks in the village.

Trevor Roberts and a team of helpers coordinated the spectacular fireworks display, set off from the harbour - with many claiming it to be the best yet.

Local businesses also offered support, with thanks going to The Bay Hotel, The Paris, Roskilly’s, Lizard Peninsula Grass Fed Beef, Porthgwara Nursing Home, The Lifeboat House, Archies Loft, Coverack Village Stores, Little Trevothan Caravan Park, Harbour Lights and The Old Mill Shop for all donating towards the cost of the fireworks.

The Bay Hotel provided a tasty punch and Archies Loft supplied hot soup. Many other small businesses and individuals provided raffle prizes, with particular thanks given to Vicky Allen of Silver and Copper Jewellery for her generous donation.

Caroline said: "The firework team are all volunteers and without their hard work the evening would not be the great success that it is."

She added that the reassuring presence of St Keverne Fire Service was also very much appreciated as always. Firefighters extinguished the bonfire at the end of the evening to prevent any accidents.

Caroline added: "Bonfire Night in Coverack is a real community effort that leads to so many people having a great time; thanks to everyone who helped and supported. The evening was truly stunning in every aspect.

"We managed to cover the costs of insurance and fireworks, so we can do it all again next year!"
