Helston is fast becoming the go-to town for brides after two neighbouring businesses scooped industry awards.

The Bridal Studio and Sitting Pretty, both in Wendron Street, saw cousins Tara Trethowan and Rebecca Gilbert beating stiff competition in their respective categories at the Simply Wedding Awards, which cover the whole of Cornwall.

Real brides nominated businesses between October last year and this year to result in the winners.

Tara, who took over The Bridal Studio just over a year ago, won best bridal outfitter out of 11 businesses in her category.

She said: "For me it meant so much to win in our first year of having the business. The other finalists all have great reputations and respected businesses, so for us to win it was a complete shock but a great one.

"For me its all about the brides and enjoying the experience with us."

Rebecca, who has cared for brides not just in Cornwall but all around the UK and even abroad, beat seven other make up artists to be named winner in bridal make up.

She said: "After seeing the other finalists in my category I knew it would be stiff competition against such talent, and didn't expect to win. This year has without a doubt been my busiest year yet for weddings.

"I feel extremely grateful to all of my brides that took the time to vote for me and leave such wonderful comments about how they rated their experiences of me and my work."

Her salon offers nail trends, beauty treatments and holistic therapies provided by a small team, although Rebecca is the only one who can provide wedding hair and make up.
