Helston's town centre regeneration officer will remain for another two years after his contract was extended until 2019.

The town council has agreed to fund the position from the council tax precept, the portion of money the town council receives from Cornwall Council.

The part-time post is currently filled by Martin Searle, who has worked in the town since 2013 and has overseen projects such as the restoration of the Grylls Monument and revamp of its surrounding area.

His four-year contract was due to come to an end at the close of the financial year, but last month the full council agreed an extension to March 31, 2019.

Councillor Ronnie Williams asked that his name be recorded as being against the motion.

The proposed 2017/18 financial budget, which is due to be debated by councillors tomorrow, allows for a one per cent pay increase from April 1 next year, described as "nationally agreed."
