RNAS Culdrose personnel enjoyed a day of merry music and mayhem recently when the combined their annual carol concert and their It's a Knockout competition.

The air station's sports centre pulled out all the stops again for their annual It’s a Knockout competition, while personnel from across the base got up in Christmas or Santa fancy dress for the annual carol concert.

The concert was accompanied by HMS Seahawk Volunteer Band and led by Sergeant Iain Scullion, while the Reverend Andrew Corness directed proceedings with a collection of well-known traditional carols.

The teams taking part in the afternoon of fun came from a variety of different departments within RNAS Culdrose: sickbay, dental, survival equipment, Maritime Aviation Support Force (MASF), logistics and some of the various squadrons at Culdrose all joined in. Competition was fierce and prizes were given to the best fancy dress as well.

All of the activities were themed around Christmas, and one particular activity required personnel to sing a Christmas carol and was judged by Andrew and his team.

He said: “It was really great seeing and hearing the carols being sung and such a novel idea for a whole station competition.”

Santa’s nemesis the Grinch also made a timely appearance. His efforts to spoil Christmas however were tarnished and all who took part had a great day.

Warrant Officer Bridgette Turner, RNAS Culdrose’s base warrant officer, said: “It’s great to see as many people here, joining in with this station wide event, in our busy run up to Christmas. It’s also good that they’ve combined it with the traditional carol concert this year.

“We currently have several units deployed around the world, some will make it back in time for Christmas, but many others will be spending the festive period on ships and shore bases, serving their country away from their families and friends.”
