Yellow daffodils will hopefully produce pots of gold for St Mawgan in Meneage Church next month when the biennial fundraising festival takes place.

Thousands of daffodils fill the 12th century church every two years, giving visitors the chance to see a huge array of varieties as well as equipment that has been used to harvest them over the last 50 years.

Over the long weekend of February 18 to 20, the Grade I listed church will once again be the venue for the sixth festival, which will also include bell ringing, artwork, photographs and performances from local musicians.

The church will be open from 10.30am to 4.30 pm each day and will be free to enter. Light refreshments will be available, including pasties and homemade soup at lunchtime on the Saturday and Sunday, and tea and cakes all day every day.

Cornwall's daffodil industry begins in early January, with millions of stems picked every day. The Scrimshaw family of R H Scrimshaw and Sons Limited will once again be providing the blooms for the event and organisers have spoken of their gratitude to them, as well as the other local companies and organisations providing sponsorship and support.

Following a successful fundraising campaign for a new heating system at the church, all proceeds from this year's festival will be going towards substantial roof repairs needing on the building.

Anyone wishing to help in any way with the huge team effort needed to make the festival a success should contact Lindsay Hockley via the 2017 Mawgan Daffodil Festival Facebook page.
