A florist in Helston is hoping to see her business grow after taking over at The Sweet Pea.

Lin Turner has worked at the Meneage Street shop for six and a half years and has now bought it from Barry Dunstan, who is retiring.

A rebrand will see the business become the Sweet Pea Floral Studio, to fit Lin's vision of a more elegant store that offers not only bespoke bouquets but also gifts such as photo frames, jewellery stands and hanging mason jars, in addition to the chocolates and cards already stocked.

Lin, who has been a florist for 35 years, plans to start holding workshops in the spring, summer, autumn and winter, where people can learn how to make their own arrangements and create holly wreaths at Christmas.

She said: "I've run the business so I know how I can improve it. I'm trying to make it much more of a destination for people to come to, rather than just a florist shop.

"Lots of people come in just to chat to us, so we feel like we're part of the community."

Lin has recently set up a partnership with a new Dutch supplier, which will mean a much larger range of flowers available including some more unusual varieties.

Internal decorations are now underway in the store, while the outside will be rebranded when the weather improves.

"It's very exciting," said Lin, who is helped in shop by Ann-Marie Eastmond.

"It's all about trying to get people into Helston. I've got a massive belief in Helston. We have got some some nice shops so if we can make this shop a destination for people they can look at other shops when they're here."

She hopes to create closer links with The Bridal Studio in nearby Wendron Street and has plans to team up with the Hellys Tea Room just down the street, who will provide refreshments for the workshops.

"It's about businesses partnering up," she said.

The shop will continue to offer delivery in Helston and around the Lizard Peninsula, as well as to Penzance and Falmouth, and nationally through its network of florists.
