A previously withdrawn plan to set up three timber shelters on Porthleven's harbour front has returned a year on.

Porthleven Harbour and Dock Company has resubmitted its application for shelters and kiosk, which would be earmarked for the sale of food and drink.

The aim is to provide more undercover seating on what is being referred to as the Harbour Head Terrace.

Documents accompanying the application state: "At the centre of the proposals is the desire to enhance the communal enjoyment of the Harbour Head, the harbour itself, and the popular views of the harbour and notable buildings."

The application also speaks of an aim to promote local arts, crafts and trades in the area, as well as local events such as markets, concerts and festivals, and to promote "regeneration in the local and wider area."

It adds: "Currently the Harbour Head Terrace is under used. The proposal aims to create a more identifiable ‘public’ space that can be enjoyed by both locals and visitors and to integrate this underused area into the ‘public realm’ of the village."

The shelters are designed to be small scale reminders of the boat building sheds that once jutted out into the harbour and are proposed to be made from oak.

Responding to concerns raised in pre-planning discussions with Cornwall Council, the design of the shelters has been simplified "to eliminate any possible ‘overbearing’ appearance."
