The “greed” of some people in Coverack has been slated for changing the village beyond recognition.

This was the view of some parish councillors when they were asked to consider a planning application to demolish a bungalow in Chymbloth Way and replace it with a two-storey house.

Referring to the plans by Mr and Mrs K Ray, St Keverne Parish Council chairman David Lambrick said: “I just think it’s crazy somebody buys a bungalow and decides they want to a house. Why not sell the bungalow and buy a house somewhere else?

“To me there’s just so much greed in Coverack. People are building and building, trying to make money all the way.”

Councillor Tony Carey agreed: “This is becoming a very familiar story in Coverack. I’m watching a village I love changing in a way I don’t like.

“This is just another stab. It’s a thousand stabs, but it’s gradually turning Coverack into a place I don’t like.”

Coverack ward members Sarah Lyne and Rob Beadle said they had both been contacted by concerned residents about the proposed change in height of the building, which would be double the existing height.

As a result, councillors agreed to recommend that the application should be refused by Cornwall Council.
