Helston Town Council is appealing for volunteers to help out during town emergencies after agreeing on the first area to develop an Emergency Plan.

A working party made of Ronnie Williams, Tim Grattan-Kane and Paul Williams, alongside town clerk Chris Dawson, met for the first time last week and chose the St Johns area to concentrate on initially, following major flooding there in recent years.

They will now put together a plan of action to make sure the town is ready to cope in the event of an emergency.

The Emergency Plan will identify members of the community who can co-ordinate voluntary support and get the help to those who need it most.

Emergencies such as severe weather – floods, winds and snow - power failures, a flu outbreak or a major transport accident can happen at any time and without advance planning vital time can be lost in help those in need.

After initially concentrating on a plan for St Johns, more areas of Helston will be added once the first stage is drafted.

The town council is now urging individuals and community groups across Helston to contact the town clerk at the Guildhall, Helston, TR13 8ST or via townclerk@helston-tc.gov.uk to find out more about how to become involved.

A meeting of volunteers will be arranged for early March.
