More than 100 tonnes of materials were used to resurface Helston’s Fairground Car Park last week.
Helston Town Council was told that the car park would remain free to use, despite the amount of work that had to be carried out by Cornwall Council contractors Cormac.
Passing on the good news, Cornwall councillor Andrew Wallis said: “It’s now a lot of smoother and no more ‘car holes’ – they were not just manholes, they were car holes left there.
“Cormac used over 100 tonnes of materials just to smooth it out.”
He explained that it was impossible to be tarmacked properly due to the car park being built on top of an old rubbish dump. As a result the ground moved and would cause the tarmac to crack.
Mayor Gillian Geer said: “It’s actually the enormous lorries that sit there at night that do the damage.
“They have got to park somewhere, I appreciate that.”
Mr Wallis said Cornwall Council was looking at “how to address” this issue.
