The Environment Agency and Cornwall Council have agreed to work together to try to stop the majority of flooding at one of the worst-hit parts of Porthleven.
Methleigh Bottoms has been prone to flooding for years and already has a hump in the road to try to prevent water from flooding the highway.
However, the effect of this tends to be that water backs up and runs into the gardens of neighbouring properties – and in the worst cases their homes.
Now, a slipway will be created so that water can drain away into the river, with work expected to begin early April.
Cornwall councillor Andrew Wallis said that without the necessary funds to pay for the widening of the culvert there, this was the next best option, adding: “It won’t remove flooding 100 per cent but it will reduce the problem.”
