A hospital radio programme presented by two mums from Helston and Porthleven has been named amongst the top ten in the country.

Friends Aimee Williams and Kath Gibbons have a Friday morning slot, That Friday Feeling With Kath and Aimee, which is broadcast at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, the West Cornwall Hospital in Hayle and St Michael's at Hayle, as well as online at chbnradio.org and throughout Truro and the surrounding area on 100.8 FM between 10am and noon.

Such has been its popularity that the show was nominated for 'best programme with multiple presenters' at the HBA (Hospital Radio Association) Awards in Bolton.

Although the pair did not win overall, both were "excited" to be recognised as amongst the best in the country.

Aimee, who has been presenting hospital radio with Kath for the last six years, told the Packet: "We have been doing the show for quite a long time now so we have regular people that like to listen.

"It was a real honour to be a finalist. Kath and I just love doing the radio so much, that we were just really excited to make the final ten in the country.

"We feel very lucky we are able to do something we love so much."

The show features a variety of music as well as regular features such as "ask a stupid question" and "Friday indulgence" where the pair pick an up-and-coming artist to play.

"It's a very relaxed, fun show to listen to, which hopefully makes people laugh - normally at us - and brings a smile to people's faces," said Aimee, who runs a counselling service for children in schools, while Kath is a support worker for the Mustard Seed in Helston.

It is something that both had wanted to do for a long time and decided to answer an advert together, as they work well as a team.

Both have had children in hospital and recognised the importance that hospital radio can play.

"I think part of our desire is to offer some light relief. That's why we try to make our shows fun and for people to be able to get involved - something that makes a bit of a break from the stresses of hospital," said Aimee.
