Last orders have been called for a popular character from Porthleven who died Sunday.

Tributes have been paid to former fisherman Brian Jenkin, who was a familiar face in the Ship Inn and around the port.

Mr Jenkin, who was affectionately known as Jenks to most people, used to work on the fishing boat Leven Mor and was part of the crew that caught a royal sturgeon that sold for a record £2,018.25 on May 9, 1983.

In latter years he could often be found welcoming visitors to the Ship Inn and making sure people were served in a timely fashion, from his seat at the bar.

Pub manager Oliver Waite said: "He was a character. It seems strange not having him here. He will be sorely missed."

Tributes have also been paid on Facebook, where Lynn Werren wrote: "RIP Brian. You are a true legend, who will be sadly missed, but will remain fondly in our memories."

Joyce Edwards agreed: "I am saddened to think that he won't be propping up the bar in the Ship and sitting on Cookie's stool at the garage. He was a part of Porthleven and always had a kind word to say to me. He will be much missed. My condolences to his family."
