There will be no election in Helston or many of its surrounding parishes next month due to a lack of candidates putting themselves forward - while in Wendron there is not even enough people to form a council.
Two members of Helston Town Council, Paul Williams and Aiden Harrison, have stood down and only one new candidate registered - Ronald Edgcumbe - meaning the remaining existing councillors have all retained their seats, with one vacancy still to fill.
Porthleven Town Council will have an election, although mayor Barbara Powell will not be amongst the candidates, as her name is missing from the list of nominations. There are four new names listed - Mark Adair, Tom Harrison, Liz Lane and Naomi Osmond - with the remaining existing councillors also making an appearance.
However, Wendron Parish Council does not have enough people standing to be quorate - the term given to a council that can legally make decisions. To be so, a council must have a minimum of three councillors or a third of its capacity, whichever is greater. Full capacity of Wendron is 15 seats and only four people have put themselves forward, with no one standing at all for the Trewennack ward, therefore a re-run will have to be called at a later date. In the meantime is is understood that Cornwall Council will take over any important matters until such a time that a council can form.
There remains a vacancy on St Keverne Parish Council, after four members - Russell Peters, Tony Carey, Rob Beadle and Dominic Brandreth - stood down and only three new candidates came forward: Will Pollard for Coverack and Jill Ludbrook and Alicia Strickland for St Keverne.
Other parish councils in the area that are uncontested are Breage, Cury, Germoe, Grade Ruan, Gweek, Manaccan, Mawgan-in-Meneage, Mullion, Sithney and St Martin-in-Meneage.
Both Germoe and Sithney only have four nominated candidates each, but as the maximum number of seats at Germoe is seven and the maximum at Sithney is nine then both remain quorate.
Landewednack Parish Council has the largest field of candidates, at 16, meaning there will be an election for the ten seats.
