It was quackers down at Poldhu Beach on Easter Sunday when the annual duck race took place with 1,200 entries.

Huge crowds of people lined the river on the beach to see the 12 different heats, which split the ducks into groups of 100. These were then thrown into the water at one end of the course, with the first one to reach the finish line each time winning its owner a large chocolate egg.

There was then a final race featuring all 1,200 of them, with first, second and third prizes - the overall winner receiving the biggest egg of all.

Alongside the racing, there were plenty of other activities for families to get involved in, including a tombola, hook-a-duck game and glitter tattoos, with special duck race T-shirts available to buy.

The event raised £1,781 for Children's Hospice South West.

Organisers Ross and Natalie Hocking, who own and run Poldhu Beach Cafe, said: ""We were blessed with sunshine and blue skies for our seventh annual charity duck race. Yet again we are totally overwhelmed by the turnout and support.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to you all, especially our friends and family. But mostly we thank our awesome team of staff - without all of you we wouldn't pull off and grow this event every year."
