Around 100 people gathered at the playing fields in Porthleven to take part in the annual duck race, organised by a local community group.

The Porthleven Community Group organise several events each year, including the annual duck race.

Competitors meet in the public hall two weeks before the race to make their ducks out of papier-mâché, before taking them home to paint. On Saturday it was then time to test them out on the water.

Rob John, chairman of the Porthleven Community Group, said: "It was absolutely lovely.

"We have several races including a children's race, an adults race and a mini duck race which people sponsor to raise money for the signing choir from Porthleven School.

"The sponsors raised £135 this year, which will go towards transport for the choir."

As usual, the mayor of Porthleven was there to judge the best decorated ducks. Barbara Powell also presented the prizes to the winners of each race and received a special 'mayoral duck' as a thank you for her trouble.

The group's next event is the Big Lunch in June, followed by the torchlight procession on the August bank holiday and finally apudding evening held in November.
