Part of Helston town centre was cordoned off this afternoon after a fire broke out underneath the Guildhall.
It is understood that three people had to be treated for some inhalation following the incident in the public toilets at around 3pm.
There are unconfirmed reports that the fire may have been caused by an attempt to set some newspapers alight.
It is believed that smoke from the fire filtered into the adjoining Corn Exchange, which in less than a week's time will be filled with Flora Day dancers ahead of three of the day's dances.
Emergency services cordoned off Church Street while the incident was dealt with, as fire crews, police and an ambulance attended the scene.
Once the fire was out the rooms were ventilated by firefighters, with no significant damage believed to have been caused by the incident.
